The Rural Directory has been in operation since the late 80's - having been typed on a typewriter and started by Mary Miller.  When Mary passed away her sister Jo Jo De Hesse took over to keep the directory going.  When Jo Jo passed away before the 2001 book was finished, Jo Jo's daughter and Beverly Stewart took up the crusade.  The directory is now published thanks to the hard work of The Stewarts.

The directory is published every two years, this began in 2008.  The directory has had some hard times but the perseverance of the people involved has kept it alive.  After some trial and error, 500 copies of the directory are published each two years.  The cost to print and bind the books is covered by our loyal advertisers.  The Rural Directory asks for a $5.00 donation per book - the funds raised are then 100% donated to the Southern Yavapai Fire Department in Wilhoit to purchase much needed supplies.
